I probably should have started out by introducing myself, but I guess nothing is ever too late. I am a student at Rowan University. My major is Writing Arts and Elementary Education, with a certification in Special Education. I enjoy learning about children’s thought processes, and how to teach them so they can be successful. In addition to my education, I am a manager at a clothing boutique. We only sell white and black clothing, which I feel is very unique. So I am into fashion. I love clothes! I also love to travel, as well as cook when I have the free time. Although, through the years my free time is becoming less and less.

Moreover, this blog process has been interesting, however very informative. I feel I gained a lot of knowledge about blogs. Before this semester I would hear the word “blog,” but that meant nothing to me. Now I know what it is all about, and how it can add to my knowledge. It is sharing ideas with the world, and gaining insight from the world. It is actually a very neat thing. I can write down my feelings and share them, and then get feedback. In addition, I can read others thoughts and feelings, then gain knowledge from them. Basically it is a huge sharing bank. Everyone puts their thoughts and ideas together. It is kind of like the expression “two heads are better than one.” Many of my teachers would say that, to get use to work in groups.

Here is an amazing dip that I would like to share with you. It is perfect for this time of year, with football season in full swing.

1 can of refried beans

1 container of sour cream

1 packet of taco seasoning

1 container of pre-made guacomole

2 tomatoes chopped

6 green onions chopped

1 can of chopped olives

5 jalopenos chopped

2 blocks of shredded cheddar chesse

This is a layering dip, so you first start with the refried beans. Spread it flat onto a large plate. Then take the taco seasoning and the sour cream. Mix them together. Then spread that layer on top of the beans. Then take the guacomole and spread on top of the sour cream. Then layer the tomatoes on top of the guacomole. Next add the chopped olives on top on the tomatoes. Then add cheddar cheese on top of the tomatoes. Next layer the green onions on top of the cheddar cheese. Lastly add the jalopenos on top of the green onions. Then serve with tostitos chips. The scoops work great. This is a huge hit for football. My boyfriend and his roomates devour it. Enjoy!

So, I have no idea what happend, but my post of this, got erased out of no where. So, I am going to try to remember what it is that I wrote. Again, I agree with hating technology at times.

In the reading Dark Night of The Soul it discussed how we have no answers on why horrible things happen to society. The example that was in the reading was the Columbine Shooting. One of the boys, wrote a diary saying do not blame any one but them. Do not blame his parents, or the school, or the video games. They said to blame specifically them. Then we ask ourselves why? What could we have done to change their minds. What lead up to all of this hate for human race?

Perhaps we will never all the answers to the world. With recent events that took place on our campus with Donnie Farrell. Why was a innocent young man jumped and left to die? What was the reason behind that hate and violence? We need answers fast. It makes me question and think, if I want to bring a child into this world? It is full of hate.

This is in response to the chat rooms we spoke in on Wednesday. I think that it was a really different approach to classroom discussions. It kind of forced everyone to participate and while it was a little bit odd, it worked. Everyone was able to have time to think about their opinions and type them into the computer. I don’t really, however, see chat rooms as becoming a huge part of schools..but from time to time, I think they could be used in classes as a fresh breath from the usual raise your hand, go around the room, lessons.

This was originally going to be a response to the chat we had in class over internet plagiarism, but this is getting so ridiculous that I have to say something. I do not know if this has happened to anyone else in the class, but when I went on to the Netvibes site I saw that all of the widgets I added were gone. Even my game of plinko wasn’t there! throughout this semester we have been reading things about technology and how it is evolving, but no one is saying anything on the fact that sometimes it just doesn’t work.

I know I am an extreme case, already starting off as a technophobe, but it has been proven that technology like to malfunction around me. When I had to connect to the VPN everything went wrong. I actually stumped nearly everyone at the IT desk. It has happened before too; at my old school I manage to stump the entire IT department as to why my computer wouldn’t hook up to the internet.

I think that’s why I am so bipolar with what this class has taught me. On one hand, I am exited and intrigued as to the new things to learn, but on the other hand part of me is saying, “Great, another thing for me to break.”

ECO-JULIA

While, reading the article “Understanding Internet Plagiarism,” by Rebecca Moore Howard it dawned on me how much of a textual revolution it is. Many people before the internet used big reference books from the library, which I have to say I still use to this day. I think there is just so much more substance to those books than the internet. In addition I know those big books are authentic. The internet today everyone has access to, and can just publish any kind of non sense. They can publish something and then claim that they are an expert of that subject. Moreover, there are even web sites that you can buy papers off of. That is just absolutely crazy to me. Basically anyone can get their hands on something with money. “Money talks”

I also have a problem with Internet Plagiarism because so many people today can write down their feelings and publish it. With this many people publishing, it is a good chance that a few people are going to have the same ideas. Perhaps you did not see a certain site, but someone else can stumble upon it and think that you got that idea from that person. I do not like that idea what so ever. I feel with the internet the way it is today, it makes me scared to write at times. The reason is because I never know was this someone else’s idea?

In addition with softwares given to teachers where they can type in a sentence, and see if it is plagiarized. It makes me really nervous. I would never plagiarize anyone ones work. I would never even think of doing so, however, ever time I go to write a paper I get worried about will the professor find it to be plagiarized? Perhaps I cited it incorrrectly? or maybe this is someone else’s idea that I do not know about? This makes you second guess your own work.

Happy Halloween Everyone! This is one of my favorite holidays. I absolutely love this time of the year. What is everyone being for halloween? I am being a martini glass. All of my roomates are being alcoholic drinks. Should be a great time! Everyone please be careful and have a safe holiday. Also this the number you can call for someone to walk with you, if you are alone or scared. 856-256-4900.

I was terribly ill last week and I was unable to post a blog. Sorry guys. In the reading “A Rape in Cyberspace,” by Julian Dibbell, I found it to be a little comical. Some of you may find offense to this comment. I just really can not get into this “Second Life.” I guess it is some people’s passion, which is obviously why they take it very seriously. I do not mean to cut down their passion, but for me personal I just can not understand it. I guess that is the best way to describe my attitude of the situation. I can not grasp the concept of having this “second life.”

Do these people not like their own “real” lives? Do they feel the need to be someone in the “second life” that they long to be in their “real ” lives? Perhaps it is like plastic surgery. For some it is entertainment and adds excitement to their lives. They get to change their identity to look like something that they are not. “Second Life” is similiar to this, with the fact of having a different identity in the “second” world.

I just do not understand why someone would want to live a fake life? Is that what society is turning into?

I do not know if anyone of you know this yet but, Donnie’s neighbors are sending around a petition. It is stating how campus needs more lighting and more police enforcement. In addition, the police need to stop camping out in Beau Rivage all night. I understand that some parties need to be regulated, however 8 or 9 cops standing around waiting to write out tickets is not neccessary. I know I got a ticket in the beginning of the semester. I was walking to my neighbors house with a kitchen cup in my hand. I was very much under control and I am of age. I still got banged with a charge. This is not neccessary. They can be patrolling campus during this time. So, I encourage all of you to sign the petition. Something needs to be done. We can not just sit around and complain. We need to take action. I just wish people took the recent assaults a little more seriously. I think it is disgraceful, that it takes someone to lose a life for the school to take any action. It is so devasting. I did not know Donnie personally, however we all make up the Rowan Family. It is so sad that we lost someone from our family. Keep Donnie and his family in your prayers
